In celebration of International Women's Day 2019, Emma from etcetc has hand-picked five female artists she loves and thinks you should know. Sharing pop and R&B to house bangers, these are five movers-and-shakers spreading the good word of how shit-hot women in music are right now.

Billie Eilish

It’s fair to say 17 year old Billie Eilish has taken the world by storm. As the second most streamed female artist in Australia over summer and boasting an impressive 32 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Billie pushes the boundaries of soundscapes and visuals, bringing interesting songwriting, production and music videos to the forefront. With an endearing ‘fuck you’ attitude, Eilish brings attention to issues young people face, from not being taken seriously, to politics and mental health struggles.  With singles taken from her forthcoming debut album release ‘When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go’ amassing millions of streams already, expect to see much more of Billie in the coming years.

CLYPSO

Sydney artist CLYPSO has been killing it over the past two years, quickly becoming a fan favourite in the Australian music scene. Her debut single YOLO put her firmly on the industry radar in 2017, with a string of vibrant singles throughout 2018 culminating in the release of her debut EP ‘Cameo ‘this year. Establishing herself as an exciting producer, songwriter, vocalist and in-demand live performer, as well as teaming up with buzzing Australian acts (Kwame, Sophiegrophy), I can’t wait for more music from CLYPSO.

Lizzo

After coming onto my radar towards the end of 2018, my love for Lizzo has only grown stronger.  The singer/rapper/flautist has been dominating playlists and TV appearances with the first single of the year, ‘Juice’; a feel-good self-love anthem with a fierce tinge. With attention from the likes of Shawn Mendes, Khloe Kardashian and even Ron Burgundy, she’s gearing up to release her third album ‘Cuz I Love You’ and she is right up the top of my list of Coachella acts to see this year.

Anna Lunoe

In my humble opinion, Anna Lunoe is ultimate goals. Growing up in NSW and starting her career DJing in Sydney and on FBi Radio, she has since taken the world by storm with unique production & massive festival sets. Aside from DJing and producing, she also has her own show on Beats 1 Radio, and recently(ish) became a mum, sharing the experience of juggling music industry pressures, multiple commitments, and parenthood like a boss.

BRUX

Sydney artist BRUX is right up there on my ‘ones to watch’ list this year, going from strength to strength with her first four releases. From her bold debut single ‘I’m Back’ to most currently release ‘Belong’, BRUX has already showcased her versatility as a producer, songwriter and vocalist within the first year of the launching the project. ‘Belong’ is easily one of my favourite tracks right now, with R&B tinged house production taking a love story to the dancefloor. Don’t sleep on BRUX!
