Fever Ray At Coachella 2010!
April 21, 2010 Posted by Eva at 2:29 pm

Dressed like techno druids in all black and pale white face paint with a stage set up of blinking vintage lamps, Fever Ray’s set at Coachella 2010 was typically visceral and totally unique. Lasers overhead caught the smoke in the air, transforming the stage into a swirling neon ocean. The music hewed pretty close to the low subliminal brood of Fever Ray’s self-titled debut, but with a few playful twists like extra synth loops and tom-tom drums.
With 70-minutes of macabre lighting, terrifying costumes and sweet-smelling incense smoke this wasn’t just another tranced-out DJ set: it was a horror film-inspired installation piece that celebrated an extremely productive twelve months for Karin which included the Fever Ray releases of ‘Fever Ray’ and ‘Live in Lulea’, as well as The Knife in collaboration with Mt Sims and Planningtorock’s electronic opera ‘Tomorrow, in a Year’.

New from Grum ‘Can’t Shake this Feeling’
April 21, 2010 Posted by Eva at 11:13 am
If you’ve been within ten feet of a club or the internet over the past two years you’ll know Grum’s influence. A DJ who regularly commands the Hype Machine top spot and has won an army of champions from the best tastemaker blogs like Discodust to radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Rob Da Bank as well as a host of fans from artists like Aeroplane to Pendulum.
Grum is 24 year old Edinburgh-born DJ and producer Graeme Shepherd, a dance floor alchemist who’s earnt glowing comparisons to Mylo, The Chemical Brothers and Justice. High praise indeed, but praise he’s earnt with a string of tracks that have not so much seen him own the blogosphere as spin it playfully in the palm of his hands.
Now he’s set to take everyone else with massive crossover hit ‘Can’t Shake This Feeling’. Cramming a DJ box-load of influences from Daft Punk to The Human League and Stuart Price into 4 minutes, “Can’t Shake This Feeling” is the pinnacle of his work to date, a real cross-over moment that will introduce the world to its new dance hero. The song encapsulates what he refers to as “an endorphin rush of disco-house, ’80s pop, Italo disco and FM rock” and combines the soaring synths and vocals of the ’80s with the energy and arrangement of 2010.
Backed with mixes from the likes of Aston Shuffle, DCup, Beaumont, Charlie! and Ghosts Of Venice – and one hell of a video that has to be seen to be believed – “Can’t Shake This Feeling” is a major calling card for an artist that set to be the breakthrough dance artist of 2010.
“If Grum is what the future of electronic music sounds like (and we’re pretty sure he is), save us a spot on the dancefloor” Luke Crisell, Nylon

On No Ono ‘Helplessly Young’
April 7, 2010 Posted by Eva at 12:05 pm
Following hot on the heels of the single ‘Swim’, comes another skewed slice of Oh No Ono’s cracking new album Eggs, the new single ‘Helplessly Young’. Oh No Ono’s music, intricate and otherworldly, defies conventions and expectations (and sometimes gravity). The ten dense, hypertextured sour-sweet-sad opuses found on their debut album, Eggs, are truly breathtaking to behold; the band creates bewitching pop symphonies that unfold themselves more with each successive listen. This sounds like a wonderfully, sixties rock-inspired pop song. It’s really sunny and playful and for some reason it made me wish for the warm summer days that ended with a slushy that turned my tongue blue. Listen to “Helplessly Young” off the Debut album ‘Eggs’ on their website.
Kitsuné Maison 9: The Cotton Issue
April 7, 2010 Posted by Eva at 10:06 am
Another brand new fine album from Kitsuné, full of inspiration from a child called ‘Yume’. Indeed here is officially the most snuggly, peaceful, motherly Kitsuné compilation until now – soft as cotton. In the midst of one of the worst winters Paris has known for a long time and with so many conflicts all around, there was a need to reach out for a calming and tender nature. As a result this new compilation brings you almost as much comfort as taking a newly born in your arms and giving him a cuddle.
A fully padded compilation that’s rather more candid, innocent and carefree than the norm, and which is still inviting the listener to shake his hips. The kindliness of a home (Maison) forever opened to all kinds of ideas. Suddenly a new transversal approach shapes up with this compilation attractive to ears of all ages. Rested, serene, more contemplative, with a selection that’s probably more geared at Sunday afternoon than Saturday night, more ‘yuzu green tea’ than stupid ‘alcopops’. Sure there are a few hysterical sirens in the Jupiter track, but It sure is something that you’ll have your ears glued to.
